SummerActive 2004 Campaign Results (last year's results)
SummerActive
2004 resulted in 100% more participant registrations than in 2003. About
78,000 Canadians registered their physical activity on the SummerActive
web site between May 10th and the end of the campaign on June 19st. According
to many SummerActive leaders, these events attracted participation by thousands
more Canadians who did not register on the web site. Clearly the campaign
helped to encourage Canadians to make regular physical activity, healthy
eating and living smoke-free a part of daily living.
At last count, 298 SummerActive events provided myriad opportunities for
Canadians to walk, roll, run, swim, cycle, dance, jump and skate their way
to better health. Certainly, the campaign was successful in mobilizing schools,
workplaces, sport or recreation clubs, health centres and other settings
to create fun and stimulating environments for healthy living.
An ideal partnership opportunity for organizations fostering healthy lifestyles
SummerActive
is a terrific way to enhance a broad range of physical activity, healthy
eating, sport participation and tobacco-free living initiatives. By linking
with the campaign, partner organizations benefited from SummerActive resources,
promotions and related activities. Leaders had access to helpful leaders
resources, including SummerActive public-service announcements targeting
specific populations, settings and age groups. Leaders and physical activity
organizations were encouraged to take full advantage of SummerActive tools
and to make use of them to support their local events and programs.
