A new study in the journal Pediatrics finds that infants and
young children who spend long hours in front of the television are far
more likely to develop problems like Attention Deficit Hyperactivity
Disorder, now the most common childhood behavioral disorder. NPR Radio Report
Generally, I limit my child's use of the television to generally no
more than 1 hour per day. Mostly, time is spent with time on discovery
play and certain times on the computer with education related software.
Our child is understanding when reasons are explained for limited
television, but finds it difficult to understand why other children are
allowed to watch television without limits. We try to distract our
child with a variety of board games, puzzels, discovery toys, reading,
etc while trying to keep the interests in other items other than
television.
